The heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (hnRNPK) is a multifunctional docking protein that integrates several signal transduction pathways with a variety of gene expression regulatory mechanisms including transcription and translation by binding to chromatin and RNA, respectively. It has been shown to directly bind and regulate expression of multiple promoters including c-Myc, c-Src, thymidine kinase 1, androgen receptor, eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E, and p53 target genes.
