Cyclopiazonic acid (CPA) is a neurotoxic secondary metabolite from Aspergillus flavus that acts as a potent nanomolar inhibitor of the sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca ATPase (SERCA). It is widely used in research to study calcium signaling, ER stress, and programmed cell death in both in vitro cellular models and in vivo plant studies.
