Tetradecylthioacetic acid is a synthetic fatty acid with a sulfur substitution in the beta-position. This modification renders TTA unable to undergo complete beta-oxidation and increases its biological activity, including activation of peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPARs) with preference for PPARalpha.
