Nipamovir is a nitroimidazole prodrug. In cell-based assay systems and ex vivo models of human HIV infection, Nipamovir exhibits antiviral activity similar to that of SAMT-247 and NS-1040 with lower cytotoxicity. For the two systems of CEM-SS/HIV-1RF and hPBMC/HIV-192HT599, the EC50 values of Nipamovir are 3.643.28 µM and 3.232.81 µM, respectively.
