SMCy5.5, an SMCy dye for lipid droplet labeling, exhibits a very high two-photon absorption cross-section. Unlike the well-known Nile Red, SMCy has narrow absorption and emission bands in visible light, facilitating multicolor imaging. SMCy is compatible with fixation, yielding high-quality 3D images of lipid droplets in cells and tissues. The high brightness of SMCy5.5 enables efficient tracking and imaging of lipid droplet exchange between adipocytes [1].
