Palmitoleoyl-CoA can be activated and transported to the mitochondria for metabolism, particularly for beta-oxidation. It can induce changes in the permeability of cardiac mitochondrial membranes, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction. Additionally, palmitoleoyl-CoA regulates metabolism through allosteric control of the AMPKbeta1-isoform.
