Histidine rich protein II, HRP-2, pf-HRP-2, Malaria
Specificity: Anti-P. falciparum (Clone PFAL-7871) is specific for the Histidine rich protein II of P. falciparum. Background: Plasmodium is a genus of parasitic protozoa that causes the disease malaria, a significant global health concern. There are several species of Plasmodium that can infect humans with the most common being P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, and P. ovale. The parasite is transmitted by the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Once inside the host, the parasite infects and multiplies within red blood cells. HRP-2 is a protein released by Plasmodium falciparum into the bloodstream when it infects red blood cells. It is unique to P. falciparum and has become an important target for diagnostics, especially rapid diagnostic testing.
