Tris-acetate is an amino alcohol buffer with low toxicity. It maintains pH stability in vitro and in vivo by accepting protons (H) to neutralize acids. Tris-acetate is commonly used in biochemical and pharmaceutical research as a buffering agent, with an effective buffering range of pH 7.0-9.2 and a pKa of approximately 8.3 (at 20C).
